McKay Secure EECA Low Emission Vehicle Funding

McKay’s proposal was part of the twenty-four new projects selected to receive $3.2 million to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles. Megan Woods from ECCA states “The Contestable Fund encourages innovation and investment to accelerate the uptake of low emission vehicles in New Zealand. The success of previously funded projects shows that we can meet New Zealand’s transport needs across a variety of sectors, giving other organisations the confidence to make their own investments”

The ECCA funding will allow McKay’s renewables and engineering team to work together to develop an electric utility vehicle by converting an end of line utility vehicle with a internal combustion engine into an electrical vehicle by utilising a second-hand Nissan drive system. This will help reduce carbon emissions, reduce landfill waste, and build the public’s confidence in electrical vehicle use. By doing so, McKay will demonstrate that a larger, more versatile vehicle can transform into an affordable EV. In addition to the EV Ute McKay wishes to implement a dedicated EV service department which will be based in the Whangarei district.
