TE KAUWHATA WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

McKay’s completed the electrical and instrumentation components of the new Te Kauwhata Wastewater Treatment Plant. This accomplishment marks a major step forward in modernising the facility into an innovative Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) and Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) treatment plant, significantly improving the efficiency and effectiveness of local wastewater management.

Under the guidance of Branch Manager Stuart Archer, the team at our Hamilton branch demonstrated incredible dedication and collaborative spirit throughout the project. Their hard work not only contributed to the successful completion of the project but also enhanced their skills and fostered invaluable expertise across the team.

Reflecting on the achievements, Stuart Archer shared “The success of this project speaks volumes about the commitment of our Hamilton team”.

McKay’s partnership with civil construction company, Spartan Construction, played a crucial role in this project’s success. With an emphasis on open communication and the ability to adapt to evolving needs, Spartan Construction supported McKay’s efforts every step of the way sharing how “The monumental efforts from McKay’s Hamilton branch were essential in meeting our tight schedule and demanding expectations” while noting how the team’s can-do attitude, led by Dan, Stu, Matt, and the larger group of skilled electricians, helped to deliver the project on time.

The Te Kauwhata Wastewater Treatment Plant is an impressive upgrade that not only addresses environmental concerns but also improves local water quality, ensuring sustainable management practices. Local iwi, the Mayor, councillors, and key stakeholders gathered on February 29 to celebrate the plant’s operational launch, demonstrating the project’s significance to the community.

The new facility, which discharges high-quality treated effluent into Lake Waikare, is designed to enhance treatment quality, control, and resilience. The MBR technology provides superior treatment performance through a filtration barrier that safeguards the environment and local ecosystems.

Waikato District Mayor Jacqui Church stated “The completion and operation of the MABR/MBR Wastewater Treatment Plant lead to improved water quality and environmental benefits, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for our community”.

Looking ahead, McKay remains committed to further supporting the Te Kauwhata Wastewater Plant as new solution developments are underway for the upcoming discharge consent. The adaptability, skill set, and dedication of our Hamilton team illustrates their valuable contribution to this transformative project and the positive impacts it will have on the region’s infrastructure and environment.

McKay’s participation in the Te Kauwhata Wastewater Treatment Plant project demonstrates our commitment to excellence and highlights the extraordinary possibilities that arise when passion and professionalism come together.

As the Waikato region continues to grow, the advancements made in Wastewater Treatment will play a critical role in fostering both environmental sustainability and community well-being.
